- I kind of hate Christmas.
- I definitely hate Christmas songs and commercials.
- But I love Christmas movies. (But only the ones that don’t suck.) Thinking a marathon needs to happen soon…
- Donated a dollar to the Salvation Army and signed a petition to end hydro-frakking all in the same week. You’re welcome, Humanity.
- Finally watched Carzy, Stupid, Love on Thursday night. Definitely recommend it for anyone looking for a good date/girls’ night movie. Romantic Comedies in general are rarely funny and never romantic; but I liked this one. It wasn’t what I’d call “romantic,” but it was very sweet. It also had me laughing out loud a lot. And you just can’t deny this wonderfulness:
- “It is so on that things have now become very much like Donkey Kong.” Oh, Community. Why is the TV-viewing public so blind to your utter brilliance that NBC had to bench you for the upcoming spring? SIX SEASONS AND A MOVIE!
- So after two weeks of milking the surgery cow for all it’s worth and an additional week of half-assing it during the holiday, I’m fully back on the fitness wagon. It sucks to be so behind on the 90-day Metamorphosis regime, but the end is in sight! Only 18 more days, suckaz.
- I am not, however, completely back on the healthy eating wagon. At all. My fake-o-preggo belly is never going away.
- Dear Crunchy Barney Butter; I love you. Sincerely, Courtney.
Can we agree to forgive the fact that this blog hasn’t been updated since last Monday? I actually wrote a lot, but it was just a bunch of self-pitying essays about how much life sucks. At least I had enough sense to not publish that stuff – rereading it now, I sounded suicidal. I wasn’t; I was just messed up from the Prednisone. It amplified my preexisting pessimism by about 437x. But I’m all done with the Prednisone now, and my other meds play well with natural hormones, so I’m mostly back in my
right mind normal brand of crazy. There are still some lingering effects, but it’s manageable. I don’t feel like the entire universe is out to get me personally anymore.
Not that I didn’t do anything blog-worthy in the past ten days. On Friday I volunteered at the Philadelphia Marathon expo giving race bibs to the runners. It was pretty cool – the other volunteers at my table were a lot of fun to talk to, the runners were all cordial (I was expecting at least a few grumps, but everyone was polite if not downright friendly; best customer service job ever), and the expo environment was just cool and really made me want to be a runner. So today was my 60th day with Tracy Anderson’s Metamorphosis package. Only 30 days left, and I am kicking ass, baby!
It’s gonna feel so good tomorrow to stick that 3rd disc in the DVD player tomorrow. I just hope it doesn’t start skipping…
This Thursday, I’m flying to Orlando for vacation with my family – we’re going to Walt Disney World! We’re kind of boring when it comes to vacations. We always go on either a Carnival cruise (which I do not enjoy so much, ever since I got seasick on my first one) or we head to WDW. We’ve been there enough times to know that October is the best time of year to go. EPCOT hosts an annual International Food and Wine Festival and the Magic Kingdom throws Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, both events we’re attending and I’m super stoked for. So there have been 0 blog updates for 3 weeks. There have also been 0 blog readers for 4 weeks, so at least I haven’t been neglecting devoted followers. (To those of you who are reading this: Hi, Immediate Family! Is it my week to clean the bathroom?)
So what’s happened since I last posted? Well…
About time for an upbeat post!
Yesterday was pretty great in a lot of small ways. Look, I generally don’t get a ton of wins in life, so it’s nice to get a few little wins in a single day. Positivity’s the key to happiness, right?
Winsday (HA!) started with a tidy resolution to Tuesday’s DVD debacle. This morning Kelly told me that she called Tracy Anderson’s customer service line and they’re sending a new disc, completely free of charge! We have to wait 7-10 business days, but we could use a break anyway.
For my workout, I did Jillian Michael’s Banish Fat, Boost Metabolism DVD, which kicked my butt HARD. But I got through the whole thing with only 2 mini-breaks, which is a lot better than the last time I tried it, so I’m very proud of myself.
Then there was my epic parking job at the train station on my way to Philly! Backed in perfectly in line after a single attempt, no need to straighten out or anything!
My editing internship was generally just successful yesterday. We’d had a pretty bad day Tuesday that set us back on a music video we’re trying to finish, but the problems got ironed out and everything’s back on track. And I got to work on a really awesome scene from our primary project (a short film) which allowed me to work with motion changes and blurs and other fun stuff. Then the director told me he wants to work on putting together my reel, which made me giddy for a lot of nerdy reasons but mostly because it’ll help me get some actual jobs after the internship. w00t!
Came home and had a nice chat with Annie for a while – she got a job! She’s really excited about it, and now she’ll be making more money than me so she can’t complain about being poor anymore!
I also ate very clean during the day – an apple for breakfast, celery with almond-cashew-peanut butter for a snack (yes, they make a butter from mixed nuts, and yes, it is delicious!) and a pretty salad for lunch (tuna, lettuce, tomato, purple squash, red pepper, corn, and a crunched up rice cake in place of croutons because I need to get rid of them before they go bad. I never have dressing on my salad because it’s gross-tasting and does unmentionable things to my tummy) – so I glommed on a guilty-pleasure dinner with my all-time favorite pizza from Gallery and Burlesque on Starz, followed by Dance Moms and Toddlers and Tiaras.
All-in-all, a lot of tiny things built up to a great Wednesday. Here’s hoping for a… Conquersday? Alright, Thursday’s a hard one to make a pun out of. You try to do better.
Tracy Anderson, personal trainer to such stars as Gwyneth Paltrow, Madonna, and too many others to list, has a 90-day workout plan called Metamorphosis. The boxed-set includes 4 DVDs and a whole bunch of charts and guides and even a cute little tape measure so you can keep track of your results. (It also comes with a diet plan that is ENTIRELY RIDICULOUS for anyone who isn’t morbidly obese, but we’ll just ignore that for now.) The whole thing costs about $100.
The idea is that you get 6 hours of exercise a week – a half-hour of cardio and a half-hour of muscle training every day, plus a day of rest. You do the same cardio routine for the whole 90 days, but you’re supposed to do a new circuit of muscle work every 10 days. So on the first disc is the cardio and then the other 3 (called Transform 1, 2 and 3) each have 3 circuits of strength circuits.
My sister Kelly bought the set a couple of months ago and recruited me to be her workout-buddy (I do plan on someday paying her half the cost.) Yesterday was Day 31 for us, and we were freakin’ pumped to have completed Transform 1 and finally put on Transform 2. We’re a third of the way done! We’ve been doing this for 30 days, these last 60 will be cake! We’re already seeing and feeling results, and there’s still more to come! YES!!
Except, no. We made it through the first 2 parts of the circuit (arms and abs) just fine, but when we got to the leg/lower body exercises, the disc started skipping. Crap. But, as long as it’s only a little stutter, we can still follow the exercises just fine, right? Yeah, until the disc completely stops and then loads up the Main Menu. Crap! Crap! Crap!
We tried cleaning the DVD (which does not have any visible scratches, for the record,) then fast-forwarding through the skipping sections, and finally just testing another DVD player to see if that was the problem. No use – just more skipping.
So we checked out the Tracy Anderson website, see if we can send it in for a replacement disc. But all returns have to be made within 14 days of purchase. Serves us right for not speeding through the 3-month entire program in 2 weeks, I guess. We both sent e-mails requesting information on purchasing new discs as opposed to the entire box again, but we haven’t heard back yet.
This really sucks. After investing 30 days and $100, now we have to put it all on hold? Really hoping for a nice resolution here.
There is a bit of a bright side. My arms and back are pretty sore today, so at least the workout we could get through was a success. Also, taking a break means I can do some half marathon training without overworking my muscles, but more on that at another time…
